This post has been a long time coming. Iris is now 2 months, but better late than never, right?!

 

Our fourth baby, Iris Elaina, made her way into the world on July 25th at 11:40 am. She weighed 7lbs 5oz and was 19" long.

  

We decided on her name about 5 hours after she was born. Iris was the 5th name on my list of 5. I liked it, but wasn't sold on it. But when she was born, she came out a little feisty. All the other names seemed too docile and passive, so we decided on Iris. She's calm and content, but she's definitely not going to be a pushover.

Mimi picked out these shirts for the kids. It's uncanny that she chose purple given her name wasn't decided yet.

my first baby is six

This entire pregnancy has been a wonderful reminder of my first pregnancy with Saige. Her original due date was Aug 3 and this baby girl's original due date is Aug 1. I have reflected on where we were living and how I felt during my first pregnancy more than I have in a long time. Seeing Saige grow up, is a beautiful reminder of what babies turn out to be - a little person with their own personalities, talents and gifts from God. 

My dearest Saige,

How lovely you've become. You are such a smart young lady, with a contagious laugh and a natural ability to lead. Your Daddy and I are so proud of you and of who you are becoming. Our prayer for you is this:

Lord,

You have Saige on a journey, and she needs her mind to be ready for the challenges, and the adventures that are ahead.  The world will offer many distractions and the enemy will try to make her stray from the path You have carved out for her. I thank you that You go ahead of her to light the way, are with her always to keep her steady, and You even follow after her to comfort her when she missteps.

Father, I ask that you give her a mind that is calm and full of hope. I pray that Your grace will turn her thoughts toward You and strengthen her walk of faith.

May she be a girl who is marked by self control and confidence in Her faithful God.

I pray this in Your name that never changes.

Amen.

 1.Birthday girl

Me, Jamie (as Hermione) and my amazing sister-in-law, Laura

 Jamie, a dear friend of mine celebrates her birthday today. She is one, among many friends, who has been such a blessing in my life, especially in this season of small children. I truly cherish our friendship. She helps me maintain my sanity, she prays for me and she laughs with me. She understands the, at times, ridiculousness of life with kids, she "gets it," she's honest and forthright, doesn't mince words (which is good for this people-pleaser) and she has really challenged me in my walk with the Lord. 
So, Happy Birthday, Jamie! Praying this year 32nd year is one of more growth, radical dependence upon the Lord, blessing beyond measure, snorting-out-your-nose laughter, abs of steal and lots of margaritas (with me, of course). Love you! 

 

2. House Concert

Some friends of ours hosted a house concert the other night, and the artists were Barry and Michelle Patterson. They were a-ma-zing. It was fun, intimate and you could tell they loved the Lord and one another. I am so thankful to have been introduced to their music (thanks, Kap and Wendy).  Right now, you can download 5 of their songs, but I don't think they'll be up for much longer. So go check them out. You won't be disappointed.

3.Human Sacrifice (not my favorite but this needs to be told)

This story is completely disgusting, shocking and repulsive.  
This is a call for the Church to pray. To weep. To be a voice for these victims.

The mutilated bodies of children have been discovered at roadsides, the victims of an apparently growing belief in the power of human sacrifice.”

4.What's in a McRib sandwich, you ask?

Well, I'll tell you. Yoga mats and the soles of shoes. This article explains why the sandwich is bad for your health. It's sad to me that it's not surprising in the slightest. It makes me want to hurl.

"These components are in small enough quantities to be innocuous. But it's still a little disconcerting to know that, for example, azodicarbonamide, a flour-bleaching agent that is most commonly used in the manufacture of foamed plastics like in gym mats and the soles of shoes, is found in the McRib bun. The compound is banned in Europe and Australia as a food additive."

Dear Meadow,

 

Dearest Meadow,

You are four years old and your Daddy and I can hardly believe it! Everyone keeps telling me that kids grow fast and this year I am definitely beginning to believe it. 

You are so special and I am still trying to figure you out. :) You are a lot like your Daddy (and I can't figure him out either). It has been fun watching him defend you in situations where I think you are just being ornery. He gets you, he understands you, and when that happens I just laugh and thank God that your Daddy understands why you do the things you do. You are kind and generous. You are quick to help out. And you just love life - taking it all in stride. You love your family, you love to snuggle (especially with Momma) and are content to just be with us. But you also adapt well in new situations and make friends very easily. You love to laugh and make other people laugh, especially your brother (I think Reed is one of your biggest fans and one day you'll appreciate that). You are mischievous curious, and you are sincerely funny. Once again, you get that from your Daddy. You love real animals, stuffed animals, bugs, lizards, oh and shiny things. Girl, you love things that sparkle and shine. You love to put on my grandmothers sparkly necklaces and earrings, and you look so darling doing it. You also love the color green, pretty much any fruit or vegetable and you love to wear dresses. You are so special and so unique, Meadow Rae. Your Daddy and I love you to the moon and back and our hearts are full to the brim with gratefulness for God entrusting you in our care. We are looking forward to seeing you learn and grow this year, baby girl. We love you!
