I live in the suburbs. I drive a minivan. And now my kids play soccer.
I am living the cliche and I wouldn't have it any other way.
This morning the girls had their second game and I think they got the concept down a little better. At their age, there are no practices. They just show up for the game, have about a 20 minute practice, and then start the game.
They were both rock stars and I am so proud of them. Saige did exceptionally well and received a lot of accolades from the coach and other parents. The second half, the coach put her in as goalie and I didn't know how that was going to go, honestly. But Patrick said he knew she would do great because she's not scared of the ball. And she really knocked my socks off! She kept stuffing the really good kid on the other team. And even the coach told her she was one of the best goalies he's seen at this age. I can't tell you how proud I was of her. I screamed, and jumped up and down like a complete maniac. Like a total food. I think I could get into this. And I can see how it can get a little crazy out there the more competitive your kids get. Let me tell you, the mama bear doesn't lie too far below the surface.
With all the attention Saige was getting, I think it might have made Meadow feel a little out of sorts. She kept running back and forth to me, sometimes crying, but when I would tell her to go get that ball, she would charge off like a bullet. It was interesting to observe and I am so thankful for all the teachable moments that sports will provide. When Saige stuffed the super star on the other team for like the 100th time, I told Meadow to go over and tell her sister good job and give her a high five. She immediately stopped crying and ran over to tell her big sister. It warmed my heart. That right there is what it's all about. Those moments when you can teach your children to love one another and be happy for their successes.
It was a fun day and I can't wait for next Saturday so my kids can kick some serious bootie. ;)
